I had the pleasure of working with Brantley Gilbert last week at a special event with radio station KJUG 106.7 when his fans were invited off Facebook to have lunch with him. Nearly a dozen fans were there at the event, and got to sit around the small table where Brantley discussed music, writing, answered questions and gave them a sneak peek at a few of his newest songs not yet released to radio. He also joked about how he keeps getting this “bad boy” reputation when he generally is a nice guy. He also wanted to clear the air about his recent breakup with One Tree Hill alumni and singer, Jana Kramer.
One of the specials treats for the fans were a private listen to some cuts from his upcoming CD which is expected to release in April. One of the songs “Bad Boys” has a rocking country sound, but balances out the rest of the CD with soulful ballads. The fans reacted to the songs and he explained some of the meaning behind them and his writing. One of the questions that dealt with his music and writing came from a fan who asked what his thoughts were when Jason Aldean cut his songs “Dirt Road Anthem” and “My kinda party?” Brantley said that it was truly an honor that someone like Jason would want to record one of his songs, and that it’s a huge step for him as a songwriter and he couldn’t have asked for a better artist to perform the song. After all, he said, Aldean is a fellow Georgia Boy!
After discussing music and showcasing his new tunes, the fans were able to hear a little more of Brantley’s personal life and what’s new with him. If you have been following him on twitter at all, you will know he recently got a puppy. His puppy, a black and white cute little bundle of fur, is named “Sylo.”
