Cre8tive Reviews along with over 18,000 country music fans spent last Saturday at an amazing concert! Jugfest 2014 was held Saturday May 31, 2014 at Plaza Park in Visalia. The gates opened at 1, and the show started at 3pm but loyal and excited fans waited in line starting at 10:30am for their chance to see five amazing acts.
John King Band, Jamie Lynn Spears, Collin Raye, Frankie Ballard and ACM New Artist Award Winner Justin Moore took to the stage for this FREE concert. The thing that we loved about this concert series in the park is the acoustic style of the performances. Most of the artists were able to showcase their singing talent without the large band behind them and the crowd loved it! Justin Moore was the last act of the night and he had his entire band with him along with his massive tour bus and multiple guitars.
We were privileged to capture photos of the event, and interview some of the singers before and after their set. One of our team members, Paul Breski, was the official photographer for the event – and quite a few of his photos have been featured on the Facebook pages of KJUG Radio, John King, Jamie Lynn Spears and Frankie Ballard.
Before John King started off the show he was out mingling with the fans and signing autographs, and posing for pictures. He performed songs from his new CD and the crowd really enjoyed his energy and vocals. One of the crowds favorites was “Huk’r Shoes” and his new single “Tonight Tonight.”
Jamie Lynn Spears was next and she did not disappoint the crowd! Her vocals were spot on, and hearing her acoustically proved she was for real. One fan even told us “They should not call her Britney’s sister, cause she can sing and hold her own as an amazing singer!”
Our buddy, Frankie Ballard started his set while sitting on bar stools, but that didn’t last long. His high energy show got himself, and the crowd up out of their chairs. His upbeat single “Helluvalife” got the crowd singing and he even found his way into the audience to sing with his fans. He even found a few kids to help him sing “Old Time Rock’n Roll” by Bob Seger on stage with him. He followed up that song with his new single “Sunshine and Whiskey.”
Collin Raye took the stage next and performed his classic hits like “Little Red Rodeo” and “Little Rock” to name a few. He has written a new book called “Is country music dead.” If you get a chance to pick up a copy, it’s an interesting read.
Headliner Justin Moore and ACM New Artist of the Year winner came out swinging and the crowd was excited! Justin performed his high energy country music and showcased why he won the new artist award.
We caught up with Adam Jeffries, the program director for 106.7 KJUG and asked him about the event.
How did you feel Jugfest went?
I felt it went extremely well. It was out biggest one yet. The number we have is around 18,000 listeners attended . All the artists loved playing it and the crowd was fantastic.
Since this is your 8th year that 106.7 KJUG Country has done this show. Dose it get any easier to do this kinda show and how have your listener’s responded and are you make’n plans for next year?
We always try to top ourselves every year and make it bigger and better. We’d like to make it the biggest concert event in Central California. We are already planning for next year !
